Peter and Aurelio mid-surf-check in Lajolla.
There’s just something about a Southern California summer that hits differently. Maybe it’s the salty air, the golden light, or the fact that time seems to move a little slower when the water’s warm and the vibes are high. Around here, summer’s not just a season — it’s a whole state of mind. And at IPD, we’re soaking up every second of it, from sunrise surf checks to sunset hangs in the lot.
Here’s what makes SoCal summers so special — and what we’re wearing while we live 'em.
🌊 Mornings Start in the Lineup
There’s no better alarm clock than the sound of waves cracking just outside your window. And nothing beats paddling out at first light in just your board shorts, no wetsuit required. The summer swell might not always be pumping, but warm water, glassy peaks, and mellow crowds make up for it every time.
We built our board shorts to handle it all — the quick paddle-outs, the long sessions, the mid-morning breakfast burrito run. Lightweight, quick-drying, and made to move, they’re the first thing we throw on and the last thing we want to take off.
☀️ Midday Cruising, Lot Lurking, and Snack Missions
Once you’re dried off and salty, the day’s wide open. Whether you’re posted in a beach lot talking story or hitting a taqueria with sand still on your feet, you’ll catch us in our walk shorts — easy, breathable, and clean enough to roll straight from the beach to wherever the day’s taking you.
Walk shorts are the unsung hero of summer. They’ve got just enough polish to pass at a decent taco joint, but they still feel like you’re wearing nothing. Pair them with your favorite faded IPD tee, and you’re golden.
🛹 Afternoon Skate Sessions and Lot Jams
When the wind picks up and the waves go flat, it’s time to swap fins for four wheels. We’re hitting backyard ramps, local parks, or just cruising the alleys looking for the next DIY spot. And yeah — we’re probably still in our board shorts. No rules here. They move with you, breathe easy, and they’ve survived more slams than we can count.
Skating in the summer heat hits different, but so does the reward: a cold drink, a cracked sunset, and maybe a replay of the clip someone finally landed. It’s all part of the rhythm.
🌅 Evenings Made for Fire Pits and Friends
SoCal sunsets don’t play. From Malibu to San O, the golden hour stretches long, and the sky puts on a show almost every night. It’s when the day winds down, the hoodies come out, and the stories get better with each retelling. We’re still barefoot, still rocking the same board shorts or walk shorts we’ve been in all day — no complaints.
This is the good stuff. The reason we live here. The reason we ride. The reason IPD exists.
So yeah, Southern California summers are something else. They’re loud and chill, fast and easy, spontaneous and familiar — all at the same time. And as long as the sun’s shining and the water’s warm, we’ll be out here, chasing lines, catching rays, and living in our boardies and walk shorts.
See you in the lot.
