IPD STUDIOS X YOKI SHOP STUDIO
IPD originally started as a mark used on surfboards by Bob Hurley. His main branding was in the Hurley name long before the clothing brand. Hurley surfboards were pretty big in our neck of the woods, and you could even find the boards under the feet of some of both the state and worlds finest surfers. Accompanied with the branding was the IPD logo, international pro designs. Bob’s original idea was to create a union of sorts with all of the surfboard shapers.
He envisioned an insignia that united shapers, and would bring together all the brilliant minds of the surfboard design under one roof. Everyone would benefit from the wealth of knowledge being shared and everyone having each other's backs.
Turns out that some shapers keep their secrets held close. Not everyone wanted to give away the bread and butter to what makes their boards so unique. Trade secrets remained trade secrets and the logo mainly just stayed on Bob’s boards as a secondary marking.
International Pro Design Studios takes the brand DNA of IPD and meshes it together with likeminded humans, groups, or ideas. Branching into the disciplines of art, music, sport, and more, the design studio drops will turn heads and are produced in limited quantities. Similar to the original idea of the board union, we want to team up with entities large and small and champion their uniqueness through the lens of IPD.
YOKI SHOP CITY X IPD Studios brings together the timeless execution and physical art of Jeff Yokoyama onto art tees and one-off hand painted board shorts.
Yoki is a character. From unorthodox ways of making art to cutting edge ideas in fashion and surf, he’s a true joy to hang around and soak up inspiration from. His track record is very impressive, and is a true testament to age being just a number. He still looks cooler than most, surfs as much as he can, and loves developing new ideas or re-shaping old ones. Thanks for all the fun times making this collection Yoki!
Here's a little breakdown on each tee:
THE COVER TEE- Strike a pose for the cover. Take a time machine back to when print was supreme and ads appeared in the magazines instead of on Meta and google.
TOGETHER WE MAKE TEE- Together we can make anything. Yoki made this tee to inspire collaboration between all walks of life.
THE SOUND TEE- High frequency. The sound tee lets you rep IPD sans letters and adds in an abstract marking signifying the movement.
THE LOOK TEE- High fashion meets DIY style. Believe it or not, Yoki poked holes into the picture and inserted his very own reading glasses into it.
SHIRT ON SHIRT TEE- Ever wish your shirt had a shirt? If so, this is the tee for you. If you never wished for that, just look how cool it is. How could you resist?
