We can’t lie-2024 has been great! It is always sad to see a year come to an end, as it just means our business becomes a year older, some of our favorite designs are in the past, and that the holiday season is over and it’s about time to get back on the horse that is the work week. With all that being said, there’s also many exciting things that come with the year ending. Our newest and arguably best designs in all categories we believe are ahead of us, landing in the upcoming 2025 months. On top of this, we do get to take a fun stroll down memory lane and relive some of our favorite moments from the past year. You’ll see them all visually compiled soon, in our THE BEST BITS OF 2024 video, and if you haven’t, make sure to watch THE BEST BITS OF 2022 AND 2023 for what you can expect (loud, fast rock and roll, black and white coloring, and surf skate action). Below we are recapping our favorite moments from 2024.
PASSPORT PREMIERE - January 2024
2024 started off with a bang. Although cold and gloomy weather, southern california saw a great run of rather large swell. The boys at IPD were surely surfing up a storm at the start of the year. On the 16th of January, however, there were big things planned. We were set to premiere the sequel of the critically acclaimed NO PASSPORT with its follow-up video PASSPORT. Ty finally got that dang passport and decided the best place to go was to Bali. It doesn’t take a big brain to make that decision-the waves fire over there and early season summer around town can be lackluster. The premiere went off (see video below), with the cold weather stopping no one from coming out to our outdoor venue, sipping cold ones, and enjoying music from the bands that played that night (iforget, heartsale FKA swill, and spliffriff).
MEXICO TRIP - March 2024
Our second drop of the year product wise was one we were very proud of. It featured some of our best tee graphics to date, best boardshort prints, a killer 20” cord short, nice lids, and plenty of other products that were sure to fly off the shelves. We thought the play was to make sure we photographed them and got them shot in a place that best reflected the style of the goods. We crossed the border and headed south to shoot surf, skate, and the cruisey vibe of baja. An all-star crew of talent and photo + video guys, we came back with an epic video, rad photos, and good memories stored in our memory banks.
HOTDOGS AND HANDRAILS - Summer 2024
If you’ve been a fan of IPD for a little while now, you might be familiar with our summer season tradition of hotdogs and handrails. Schools out, the weathers hot, and sometimes the waves can be nowhere to be found around summer. Although we tend to get a lot of south swell, there are times early on and through July where the swell is meager and the water still potentially cold. Enter hotdogs and handrails.
This weekly or bi-weekly event hosts a slew of guests at IPD HQ. Skaters of all ages can come through, skate our ramps, eat a hotdog or two or three, and just hang out with the local Costa Mesa community. Typically from 430-7, groms roll up in board shorts and tees and skate till they can’t no more while their parents chop it up around the office. A tradition we hope to keep going into 2025, make sure if you’re around next summer to swing by on Thursdays to see that action live.
RE-CREATED COSTA MESA SHOOT - September 2024
Way back around the inception of the brand, maybe the second or third drop of goods we created, we did a shot locally by HQ in Costa Mesa. This city is in our DNA, from Bob shaping his first boards just a block away from the office to the roots of punk rock and the surf industry all coming from this small blip on the orange county map. We shot at HQ, some of the cross streets, minute king (a lunch staple), and at the beach. Times pass and things change.
We decided to recreate this shoot for one of our drops this year. Some things were the same-we shot around HQ and minute king, and at the beach. But minute king is now closed, HQ has more ramps, we had some of the OG faces and some new ones for this shoot, and decided to skate at the local Costa Mesa skatepark. There’s a lot to see at home, and it seems as though this video and photo collection was well received.
PREVIEW: NEW VIDEO SERIES - Winter 2024
Towards the end of year, something dawned on us as we sat round-tabling at the Costa Mesa HQ. We have so many epic youtube videos to be seen on our channel, but the content was lacking a bit of depth. We had bitchin surf and skate action clips, mixed in with lifestyle clips in our board shorts, tees, fleece, shirts, etc. But there wasn’t anything that told you the story of our team or our team riders. With this, we decided in the last quarter of 2024 to film two new episodes of a brand new series (which is still unnamed, lol) to give you a better understanding of the corelords that make up the IPD roster. While there are so many different personalities and styles of surfers in our stable, they all have those characteristics (gritty, hard working, no handout taking) that make them fit the IPD mold.
